Metal Detecting Tips

What You Need To Know About Metal Detecting

Of all the things that there are to do in this world, there are very few that offer the thrill of finding buried treasure. I don’t know, maybe it’s the kid in us or all those pirate shows we watched growing up. Let’s face it, the thought of going out there with our metal detector and finding, heaven knows what, is a thrill that is hard to match. Okay, this article is going to go over a few things you might want to know BEFORE venturing off into this unknown land.

Your metal detecting success is only going to be as good as the equipment that you use. That means getting a metal detector that’s actually worth its salt and learning HOW to use it. Unfortunately, too many people go for cheap equipment and don’t take the time to properly learn how to use it. Then they end up disappointed with their results and blame the whole metal detecting gig. It’s not the gig’s fault. It all starts with the equipment you use.

Next, there’s the matter of exactly what it is you want to go searching for. Is it coins and relics or are you going after some real buried treasure? You need to make sure that you have a definite purpose in mind because you will need different equipment and different techniques depending on what it is that you’re searching for. No, not all metal is the same. That’s the first thing you need to understand before you even begin.

Something a lot of people don’t think about, but it’s very important, is finding a hunting buddy. You don’t want to be out there looking for this stuff on your own. Having a buddy along can be very helpful, mostly because somebody else might find something that you’ve overlooked. Probably the best way to find somebody is to frequent metal detecting forums and look for sections that are specifically made for hooking up with other hunters.
